Just got a call from my eldest niece. looks like I get to be a groomsman in her wedding. I got permission to wear my kilt in the wedding with the jacket they choose.
It will be the Lamont Modern I'm ordering. So what should go with kilt and jacket? I will be going with a plaid. Hey, I like them and the look. This time it will be a real plaid not just a sash. I have a set of gillies and I just ordered a set of red wool garters.
So since I think you don't get much more formal than an evening wedding outside of a White House (though I hear it's easy to crash) I can use it as an excuse to get a few doodads and gewgaws
In all seriousness about this how should I approach this? My family doesn't have a clue on what is appropriate. My mother wore white to my wedding.
Jim, I think you already know what to wear, your avatar photo is a good guide (less the medals). I cann't remember what web site I was on but your same question was asked, the one thing that the site mentioned is that one should not out do the Bride and Groom so the less flashy you are, the better, and how you appear in your photo I would say is approprate.
I do hang out over at the X-Marks the Scot forum so I'm getting advise there to but here are the Lamonts. Here is where you guys know what goes with that tartan best.
To give you an idea that I have no idea what things are going to be like my wife will be my niece's Matron of Honor... wait for it... dressed in black. It's a wedding not a funeral but it will be on Friday the 13th. I am told not only is it ok to come armed I'm asked to come armed. I can't wear a hat in church but a dirk on my side is encouraged!
Not sure what jacket they are chosing so I'm not sure if I can wear my PC yet.

Let us know how it works out.
And it keeps getting better. My niece called Amy today (my nieces & nephews just can't grasp people have to work for a living) to talk about the wedding. Right now my niece really doesn't care what type of dress she wore. My wife tried to pump her for details but there wasn't any to be had.
Looks like Amy will be walking down the isle with my niece's future father-in-law. She gave my wife a warning if he tried anything go ahead and slap him. On top of this they have to wait until he gets out of jail so they can get him measured for a tux.
I think my tea teetotaling wife is eying my liquor stash.
Hi I have attached a photo of us at a recient wedding. White hose is really best for a wedding. The photo is not so good Jim is wearing Ancient Lamont kilt and a blue jacket an ancient lamont plaid and blue bow tie and blue hose flashes all same colour and material as jacket. Argyll or prince charles jackets are equally acceptable for a wedding. Have a good time and go easy on the amber nectar! Mary
On the jacket I am in a holding pattern until I get a photo of what the other Groomsmen are wearing. Since it sounds like the will be no standard to the dresses so I am willing to bet that the groomsmen won't be any more organized.
This event helps allow me to order the Lamont Modern kilt from Kathy Lare. That will be a large cost already. I don't think I can push for a Argyll jacket. Dang.
WOW!!! after hearing all the conversations and the changes...will this wedding ever take place? No wonder your wife is eyeing your stash...I'ld be looking to have a few(or more) shots myself after the last comment
Today's IM produced no more useful info on wedding details.
Fun details are still rolling in. My sister won't be giving the bride away (since she didn't have who the father is) like I thought. It will be her step-father. Hopefully he won't be in jail for violation of his multiple probation.
I'm eying my stash now.
On the good side it is looking more and more like it is a come as you are for the wedding party. If finances go well maybe I will be able to squeeze out an Argyll. Maybe.
Maybe this combo from USA Kilts. Get the jacket and waist coat as a set but skip the waistcoat for the wedding to keep from distracting from the bride. It is her circus, ah wedding after all.
And we continue with the saga. When we left you last...
Niece called today. Only one additional detail fell out by accident about the wedding but we'll get to that in a minute. The bomb today is that the bride is 3 months along. That will put her at about 8 months at the wedding. She says her dress can be let out enough but my darling niece is no pixie.
The added detail about the wedding is that my sgain dubh and dirk will not be enough steel for the wedding. Every member of the wedding party is expected to wear a sword. This includes my wife in her black strapless evening dress. Now if we don't get our own swords they will provide one for each. Knowing my family they would set me up with a katana for my kilt and put a claymore across my wife's back. So now I need to find a basket hilt for me and something small and delicate for Amy.
